Skilled Workers:

Canadian companies need you

"Canada will experience a one million worker shortage by the year 2020."
  - Conference Board of Canada

The Federal Government's Skilled Worker Program is an initiative:
  • To overcome Canadian skill shortages, and,
  • To identify individuals who will contribute to Canada's economy.
A Skilled Worker Visa can be your first step towards a Permanent Resident Visa.

To enter Canada as a Skilled Worker, you require a Work Visa that allows you to work for a specific employer, at a specific job, for a specific length of time (usually 12 months).

While you are working in Canada, you may choose to apply for a Permanent Resident Visa. As a Permanent Resident Visa holder you have the right to indefinitely live, work, and study in Canada. Usually, your Permanent Resident Visa rights are extended to both your spouse and dependant children.

As Permanent Residents, you and your family will be entitled to (or eligible for):
  • Unrestricted employment with any willing employer
  • Employment in any occupation (subject only to licensing)
  • Property ownership
  • Government funded healthcare
  • Government funded public schools
  • Government loans, scholarships, grants and bursaries
After 3 years as a Permanent Resident you may choose to apply for Canadian citizenship, retain your current citizenship, or have dual citizenship. As a Canadian citizen you are entitled to vote in elections and to obtain a Canadian passport which will grant you visa-free travel to most countries and the unchallenged right to return to Canada.
